Dumpster Diving

Kitchen trash can is very full.  And what better time to poke around in it (sarcasm)! She decides this is what she needs to do.

We don't understand what is going on.  At first she is just poking around the top.

He starts on his usual lecture - what are you doing, stop poking around there, you are getting your hands dirty, now you must wash your hands, make sure you use soap.

She keeps digging in earnest, not paying any attention to him.

What are you looking for?  She can't tell me - she can't talk.  She tries, but what comes out is not intelligible.  I can see she is frustrated that she can't communicate to us what appears to be a crazy frenzy of dumpster diving.

Meanwhile he is now yelling at her to stop.

She starts pulling garbage out and piling on the kitchen floor.  I quickly get another bag and hold that for her to unload the trash in to.

We both ignore him and get on with the trash unloading project - she pulling it out, me holding the new bag to collect it.

Finally, at the very bottom, she finds what she was looking for.  She took her plate to the sink and realized she was missing her spoon. When she was cleaning off her plate, she accidentally dropped her spoon in to the trash can.  So, she had to dig in it to get the spoon back.

With all that she is losing, I am amazed that she still has what it takes to know she is missing her spoon, figure out the likely location that she lost it, and persevere in digging for it while being yelled at by him.  Truly amazing.
