Perfect blue sky - no photo editing
Heading out on a dirt doar to the trail head, the last little stretch was over shallow waters. We drove over the first creek crossing but decided against the second one - since the river rock looked nasty and evil and we didn't really want to risk a slashed tire in the middle of nowhere. As a result, what was listed as a 7 mile round trip hike was instantly changed to an 8.5 mile round trip! But last night's rain had cleared what little bit of smoke that remained - we had blue skies and cool weather and we were happy.
On that dirt road, as we were leaving the last bit of "civilization" behind, we noticed that each house had a child's toy by the street - a little bicycle, a tricycle, a dump truck, a wagon etc - and we were puzzled by these people's choice of a decor theme, until Dan deciphered it - it tells the motorist that there are little kids in the neighborhood and requests that they please drive with caution. Who knew! Much too clever for us!!

Rock formations
This hike was not as strenuous as those of the last 2 days - it meandered on alongside Warm Springs Creek for the first half, with nice views - Aspens changing color, a beaver pond, interesting rock formations. Then a steep climb to a great viewpoint. Through a wooded area and then up another steep climb climb, another area of beautiful aspens changing color, another view point of big mountain ranges. Then finally our sandwiches - with a surprising kick to them - lettuce, tomato, cheese and onions accidentally mixed with a little bit of hot chillie peppers!

View from the top - notice approaching rain clouds
The rain clouds were coming in again. We hiked most of the way back in a small or moderate drizzle - enough to put an extra layer of clothing on, but not enough to get wet. It was quite pleasant - perfect hiking weather.
I practiced my "skiing" on the steep downhills - planted my pole and pivoted :) Thanks again Marla for the hiking poles - they were indispensable - I used them going uphill, crossing creeks, "skiing" steep downhills. I am also hoping they tone my arms and make them less jiggly :)

Dan's blue toe nail
We are quite sure that after these 3 days of abuse Dan's big toe nail will turn black and fall off! The silver lining is that he will then get a brand new nail.
We changed our minds about dinner at the great Thai restaurant in Hailey, and decided to just head home instead. This of course precipitated in the consumption of large quantities of junk food all the way home. Eric's Dove chocolate wrapper said "You are gorgeous" which definitely put him in his happy place. Side note - gas in Hailey was $4.05 per gallon. We noticed later it was $3.76 in Boise.

Sheep
We saw some deer/antelope in the Fairfield area, but what impressed us most was a huge flock of sheep (maybe 300 sheep - which seemed huge to us city slickers).

Turn off to Anderson dam - a bit smoky
That is the end of a good trip - can't wait to do it again.
