September 20th: For having lived here for about a quarter century, I had absolutely no idea that there was a great canyon in Eagle. Patrice, Marla and I hiked to Eagle Canyon this morning - about 8.5 mile round trip, about 1000' gross elevation gain. It is quite a surprise to be hiking along brown rolling hills and to then suddenly come upon a very deep canyon with lush green plants at the bottom. A small white cross marks the spot where a man is said to have pushed his wife to her death, and almost got away with it!!

No significant wildlife sightings on this trip - just some ladies on horseback - nothing wild about the ladies or the horses :)

This is my last practice hike before we launch on our trip on Saturday. This evening Eric, Dan and I finalized our meals, lodging logistics, dog care and medications, groceries, chocolates... :) Now all we have to do is pack our bags and coolers in to the car and leave on Saturday. The trip logistics are pretty easy since we are not camping - we will sleep in real beds, in town.
