Veggie Picking

August 19th:

Date with Rattana and Pa-Laly.  First R and I picked up L at her new digs.  I love their new apartment - it is in a secluded area, and has a huge deck overlooking a wilderness area.  And the inside has very high ceilings.  It is very calming and quiet.  L said she even saw a wild rabbit.

Then we went to Suavie Island to pick some fresh vegetables.  But first, before the vegetables, we stopped at the lavender field.  The lavender had already been harvested.  The lady threshing the seeds said they had 14 varieties.  the whole place smelled wonderful.

It was also fun to see a mulberry tree - yes, a real mulberry tree.  The lady said it was the only one on the island.  We picked a couple of pints of mulberry - it was such a thrill to see a fruit from our childhoods.

Then off to pick veggies... we spent about an hour and a half and got tons of fresh veggies.  By this time it was getting quite hot.  So we decided to skip picking peaches and to go straight home.

PS.  August 21st:
I have never eaten kale this good!  We picked tender leaves off the plants, and it almost melts in your mouth.  I have 2 kale recipes that I love.  Anyone interested can send me an email...

The corn was so tender that a certain person who shall remain nameless could handle it with their dentures on.
