Splattering

December 23rd

So... what did YOU do on the day before Christmas Eve?  Shopped?  Cooked?  Relaxed?  I splattered texture on the bathroom walls  :)

The bathroom has been an ongoing project...  It was torn apart to fix a water leak about 5 years ago and that was that for a long time.  Then in March this year Batu installed new try wall and I taped and mudded.  Despite my best efforts in mudding, the smoothness of the finish did not pass quality control (Batu and Lokka) - so that was that for March.

Then in November Batu re-finished the plaster on the joints...  And that was that for another long while.

Today we textured.  None of us had ever done it.  Batu bought a texturing contraption (a big funnel thing with a trigger mechanism, and it attaches to the compressor).  We experimented with the pressure level and the size of the nozzle and the thickness of the plaster and came up with a winning combination.  We all took turns splattering the walls and ceiling (and as a by product - our clothing too!).  The splatter pattern looks quite good - you would never know it was done by a bunch of novices  :)

Learnings:
  • Don't just remove the toilet, move it totally out of the bathroom - or else - with the compressor hose and the BIG funnel full of mud that you are trying to manage, you will trip on the toilet
  • Don't start at the door and wrap around the walls until you come to the door from the other side.  Start at the far end and work backwards to the door, or else you will bump against the fresh splatter on the walls, causing a re-do

The finshed product - yeay!!!  Next step...  prime and paint
